_Updated April 27, 2026._ Royal Caribbean Group exercised options for two more Icon-class ships today, converting the September 2025 framework agreement with Meyer Turku into firm orders for Icon 6 and Icon 7. The new hulls deliver in 2029 and 2030, extending the largest class in the fleet through the end of the decade.

> **The short version:**
>
> - Royal Caribbean Group ordered **Icon 6 (delivery 2029)** and **Icon 7 (delivery 2030)** from Meyer Turku in Finland.
> - Icon-class ships are **250,800 GRT**, carry up to **7,600 passengers**, and have **28 stateroom categories**.
> - The agreement secures Meyer Turku shipbuilding capacity for Royal through **2036**.
> - After Icon 7 delivers, Icon class will **match Oasis class** as the largest class in the Royal Caribbean fleet.
> - For interline cruisers: more Icon hulls means more sailings to choose from at airline-employee rates between 2027 and 2030.

## What Royal Caribbean Just Confirmed

Royal Caribbean Group exercised options for Icon-class hulls 6 and 7 with Meyer Turku, converting parts of the September 2025 framework agreement into firm orders, per [Cruise Industry News](https://cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/2026/04/royal-caribbean-orders-icon-class-6-and-7/). Icon 6 delivers in 2029 and Icon 7 in 2030.

Both ships will be built at the Meyer Turku yard in Finland, the same shipyard that built Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas. According to [Royal Caribbean Blog](https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2026/04/27/royal-caribbean-orders-6th-7th-icon-class-ships), the Icon platform measures 250,800 gross registered tons, carries up to 7,600 passengers, and offers 28 stateroom categories.

The deal also locks in Meyer Turku shipbuilding capacity for Royal through 2036. The two companies have worked together for more than three decades, with 25 ships built across that partnership. Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku, called the order "an important step forward in our partnership with Royal Caribbean Group to develop the shipbuilding sector over the next decade and beyond."

## The Icon-Class Fleet Timeline (2024 to 2030)

Seven Icon-class ships are now on the books across a seven-year delivery window. Here's the full timeline confirmed by [Royal Caribbean Blog](https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2026/04/27/royal-caribbean-orders-6th-7th-icon-class-ships) as of today:

The next three Icon-class hulls on order: Icon 5 (2028), Icon 6 (2029), and Icon 7 (2030).

Once Icon 7 delivers, the Icon class will match Oasis class in size, giving Royal Caribbean two seven-ship megaship classes running side by side.

## Why This Matters for Interline Cruisers

I just saw the news cross the wire this morning, and here's what I'm telling clients who've been asking about Icon-class availability.

**More hulls means more interline inventory.** When a single Icon-class ship is the only one in the fleet, interline cabins on that ship are scarce. Two ships, three ships, seven ships changes that math. By 2027 we'll have four Icon-class ships sailing simultaneously, and by 2030 the full seven. That's a meaningful expansion of the sailings I can quote at airline-employee rates, particularly Caribbean and Mediterranean itineraries where the Icon platform thrives.

**The interline-vs-retail gap tends to be largest on the newest hardware.** Newer ships launch at premium retail prices because demand is highest in the first 18 months. Interline rates compress that retail premium, which is why the absolute dollar savings on a brand-new Icon-class balcony often look bigger than the same cabin category on a 12-year-old Oasis-class ship. The percentage discount may be similar; the dollars saved is what your wallet feels.

**KTE note:** In my experience, Icon launches typically open inventory roughly 18 to 24 months ahead of sailing. Interline rates on those sailings frequently surface 90 to 180 days out, especially for shoulder-season weeks. If you have flexibility on dates, that's the window where I see the strongest interline pricing on Icon hardware.

**Booking-window strategy:** for Hero of the Seas (2027) and beyond, the play I'm running with most clients is to flag a target sailing window early and let me watch interline inventory as it loads. For more on how this works, see [how KTE works](/how-it-works/).

## Icon Class vs. Oasis Class for Families

Both classes carry massive passenger counts. Icon class is rated up to 7,600 passengers per [Royal Caribbean Blog](https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2026/04/27/royal-caribbean-orders-6th-7th-icon-class-ships), while Oasis-class ships sit a touch below that. For families, the practical differences come down to onboard neighborhoods, stateroom layout, and itinerary mix.

Icon-class ships are organized into eight neighborhoods, including Surfside (a family-focused zone with its own pool and dining) and Thrill Island (the largest waterpark at sea). The 28 stateroom categories give multi-generational groups more options for connecting cabins, suites with split sleeping areas, and family-specific layouts.

Oasis class is the proven workhorse and still excellent for families, but the newest Icon hardware is built around the family-cruising playbook the older ships taught Royal Caribbean. For a broader cruise-line comparison across airline-employee categories, see my [ranked list of cruise lines for airline employees](/blog/best-cruise-lines-airline-employees-2025), or the [Royal Caribbean interline rates page](/cruise-lines/royal-caribbean/).

## How to Position for Icon-Class Interline Sailings

Three concrete steps if you want to be ready when the new Icon hulls open for booking:

1. **Confirm eligibility first.** Interline rates depend on your employer category (airline, cargo, ATC, military, retiree). Get this squared away before you fall in love with a sailing. [See if I qualify →](/eligibility/)
2. **Target shoulder-season Icon sailings.** The largest interline gaps I see on new Icon-class ships are early-spring and late-fall Caribbean weeks, plus Mediterranean repositioning sailings. Peak summer and Christmas weeks rarely move on interline.
3. **Get on the quote list early.** Hero of the Seas (2027) is already loading, and Icon 5 inventory will follow. Email or text me your target window and I'll watch it. [Contact me here](/contact/) or grab a 15-minute Calendly slot.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### When does Icon 6 launch?

Icon 6 is scheduled to deliver in 2029 from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, per Cruise Industry News reporting on April 27, 2026. Icon 7 follows in 2030. Both are firm orders, not options. The ship names have not been announced yet.

### Will interline rates apply to Icon 6 and Icon 7?

Yes. Royal Caribbean offers interline rates across its full fleet, including new-build Icon-class ships. Interline pricing on brand-new hardware typically surfaces 90 to 180 days out from sailing, with shoulder-season weeks showing the largest interline-vs-retail gaps in my experience.

### Icon Class vs. Oasis Class — which is better for families?

Both are excellent for families. Icon class carries up to 7,600 passengers and offers 28 stateroom categories with eight onboard neighborhoods, including a family-focused Surfside zone. Oasis class is the proven family workhorse. Icon is newer hardware; Oasis is more established. For multi-gen groups, Icon's stateroom mix has the edge.

### What ports will Icon 6 and Icon 7 sail from?

Royal Caribbean has not announced homeports or itineraries for Icon 6 and Icon 7 yet. Based on prior Icon-class deployment patterns, expect Caribbean rotations from Florida (Miami, Port Canaveral) and Mediterranean seasonal sailings. Itinerary announcements typically arrive 18 to 24 months ahead of delivery.

### How do I qualify for Royal Caribbean interline rates?

Eligibility includes active and retired airline employees, cargo crew, ATC, military, and immediate family members. Verification through KTE Interliner takes under five minutes, and I quote real Royal Caribbean interline rates at the same time. Start at the eligibility page or send me your employer details directly.
